Route & Travel Times
Drivers typically take the M25 clockwise, joining the M11 north towards Cambridge, and finally taking the A10 straight into Ely.
Off-Peak Travel (Late Night / Early Morning): Expect the journey to take 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours.
Peak Travel (Weekday Mornings 07:00–09:30 & Evenings 16:30–18:30): Heavy congestion on the M25 ring road and the A10 can push travel time to 2.5 hours or more. Plan a generous buffer if heading back to Heathrow for a flight.
Fares & Vehicle Options
To avoid dynamic surge pricing, pre-booking a private hire transfer (minicab) in advance is strongly recommended over grabbing a black cab from the airport taxi rank.
Saloon / Sedan (1–4 Passengers, 2 Standard Suitcases): ~£150 – £170
Estate / Station Wagon (1–4 Passengers, 4 Standard Suitcases): ~£165 – £185
Executive / Business Class (Mercedes E-Class or similar): ~£175 – £200
MPV / 7–8 Seater Minivan (Families / Large Groups with excess luggage): ~£185 – £230+
Note on Black Cabs: Standard London Black Cabs run on meters and operate primarily within Greater London. Taking one unbooked to Ely can easily exceed £250–£300+.
